Job Summary Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, supervises maintenance related functions for the County.
This position supervises assigned staff; manages contracted commercial vendor services; supervises maintenance of facilities, grounds, and vehicles; and coordinates snow removal.
The ideal candidate for this position will have proven leadership skills and experience in staff training and development, ensuring quality control, and creating and promoting a team mentality.

Develops recurring maintenance programs and schedules; submits appropriate work orders for County maintenance response; and engages vendors for commercial maintenance services.
Assists Division Manager in determining preventive maintenance to be completed on buildings and building systems; documents scheduling and completion of work; and assists with selecting contractors.
Solicits bids and establishes purchase orders for vendor services or purchase of materials/equipment; follows established County and PRCS purchasing policies.
Manages a comprehensive grounds and athletic field maintenance program; coordinates grounds and athletic field maintenance operations; monitors adherence to established for completion of work; and approves the flexing of crew and equipment use to manage completion of work.
Supervises snow removal in assigned areas; coordinates work schedules; and provides regular updates through the designated supervisor/emergency management coordinator.
Coordinates with site users, program managers, and others to assess landscaping needs; evaluates sites for possible improvements.
Manages volunteers, temporary staff, and documentation according to County, Department, and program policies, procedures, and state licensing standards; recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and tracks staff and volunteer hours.
Develops and manages the Maintenance Plan, Operations Manual, and facility use forms, and processes; oversees preventative and corrective maintenance of facilities and grounds.
Implements the Park Maintenance Plan; ensures preventative and corrective maintenance is performed of facilities and grounds; and ensures park and park facilities meet standards for safety and cleanliness.
Prepares specifications, estimates, and bid specifications for contracted pesticide and herbicide applications; reviews bids, proposals, and recommends vendors; and oversees and monitors work completion per contract requirements.
) Manages staff performance in accordance with County and HR policies; provides regular feedback; completes appraisals of performance; ensures staff adhere to all applicable policies and procedures of the Department and of the County; ensures staff is trained and certifications are current; and advises supervisor of challenges with staffing, workload or performance.
May operate heavy equipment and vehicles such as trucks with trailers; transports heavy equipment to, on, and from site.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent with coursework in maintenance/landscaping trades; five (5) years of related work experience in athletic field maintenance or trades, depending on assigned area, inclusive of two (2) years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements Pass pre-employment criminal, credit and DMV background checks.
Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification); Prefer a Class "A" CDL (prefer passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements) within six (6) months of hire depending on job assignment).
If CDL is held/obtained, successful candidate must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by\\Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
Other certifications may be desired by the department within designated timeframes.
County supervisory, e-learning, and MOAT training as required.
